EDITORIAL
=================================================================
Greetings,
It's amazing, how serious readers (and those that cannot), take
my questions. Ofcourse, then some of them questions are to be
taken seriously. Or rather, 99.9% are to be taken seriously. <G>
What about the editorial in 15-41? 100%
Enjoy what there is to read, which is nothing much this week,
seeing Doc Logger, or whatever his name is, has decided to no
longer write to Visagie.
I must admit, some of his writings was enjoyable. ;-)
Enjoy,

Editorial on an Editorial :)
> How many Policies does FidoNet need? Is Policy 4 not enough?
> Now there are moves, to have an Echo Policy - again.
-excerpt from last week's Fidonews editorial by Henk Wolsink
How many people contribute to Fidonet? How many have organized to a
common goal? Each person has a personal policy; each organization
has a policy by which it conducts itself. Policy may be written or
unwritten, formal or informal, but generally people who do things
use a policy. It's a strategy so they don't have to rethink each
action each time they wish to take it, so that others know what they
are doing and can adapt. Policy is so necessary in any endeavor
that one will be created if a suitable one is unavailable.
Fidonews has a policy... I used it to get in the door. It doesn't
read like the Magna Carta, but it provides me the essentials to be
published here. It tells me how to format an article, where to send
it, and even hints as to the conditions under which it will be
published. And it's not covered in Policy 4...
Is it enforced? There's some policy on that, too. Henk Wolsink
will reformat an article by Doug Myers during the month of September
when the right margin extends too far if he feels like it, though I
did get cited for policy violation on that one :)
There is an echomail policy too - mostly centered on John
Souvestre's BOFAQ, though highly seasoned with unwritten practice,
occasional *EC action, conflicting documents, and institutional
dissent.
And individuals within the system have their own policies. George
Peace gets along with everyone but does what he wants. Bob Seaborne
disagrees with John Souvestre on any and all issues. John Souvestre
disagrees with anyone not covered by Bob Seaborne. And Ken Wilson
moves mail and doesn't say much.
And none of this is covered in Policy 4...
My policy is to welcome all policy... it's a sign of activity :)

[ ED comment:
Sorry Douglas, but there is no policy relating or applicable to
FidoNews. There is a ARTSPEC.DOC, which gives you guidelines as
FIDONEWS 15-42 Page 3 19 Oct 1998
to what is expected when submitting an article for publication.
The article you submitted, was indeed not to specification and
as pointed out in my e-mail and in the ARTSPEC.DOC, such articles
can be rejected and/or formatted by the Editor. However, the
latter was applied. Editors can be nice people too. ;-) ]
