EDITORIAL
=================================================================
Here in the U.S.A., it's about to be Thanksgiving Day [Thursday, 27
Nov] when we get together with family and food to celebrate the fact
we're still alive and eating. [snicker]
Turkeys are the primary victims of our carnivorous tendencies but
it varies from place to place and sub-culture to sub-culture. Hams,
pork roasts, beef roasts, vegetarian fare, and all sorts of other
comestibles made only once or twice a year can come to the fore. At my
house, there'll be plenty of the top two [turkey & ham] along with
tons of accouterment and then the major dessert table covered with
pies of every description.
In FidoNet, we can only eat our words while looking at ASCII pictures
of traditional symbols.
Following in the footsteps of last week's cyberHugs, let's give thanks
to everyone who works, without reward, to make FidoNet function
every day.
Thanks, to ALL Coordinators. Thanks, to all mail hubs. Thanks, to all
file movers. Thanks, to all the software authors. Thanks, to all
HelpNodes. Thanks, to ALL Sysops who make this the first and largest
amateur electronic communication network in the world.
Cooperation...What a concept!

Hi,
My name is Nick Lombardi and I've been running a Fidonet board here
in NYC since the mid-80's. I've haven't been keeping up with what's
been reported in Fidonet for a couple of years almost - but I'd like
to know how I can find a gateway to connect my board to the internet
for a simple EMAIL connection. Is there any gateway left around?
Ours in this area went down a while ago.
My Email address is: lombardi@murray.fordham.edu
I'm a Jesuit priest teaching Computer Science here at Fordham
University. Thanks for any leads you can give me.

Subject: How to defend against defaming in a public conference?
Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 20:01:04 +0100
Dear Chris
I am writing for the advice how to force a fidouser to send an apology
note to a Polish conference BUY_SELL.POL.
Maksymilian Wrzesinski (2:480/80) named me a thief in this conference
just because he is ignorant about a trial subscriptions of Business
Central Europe and European Voice and some computer magazines about
which I spread a word in Net under the subject: "free computer
magazines"
I need to know this before I will take a legal action in Polish court.
Below is his letter in extenso and the mentioned offending word i
underlined.
Please send advice, comments or the way how he could turn back this
offence because the court action could be damaging for him due to huge
costs.

The same old thing, every time you try and achieve something, there
are always people being destructive and disruptive.
I would like fido to have moved forward into the next millennium,
however the "fidodinosaurs" don't seem to want it.
Its a pity, but there you go what can i do?, i tried, i failed :(,
time to cut my losses and move onto more challenging and productive
projects, and yes you have my permission to print this in fidonews

1. Open Excel for Windows 95 with a blank worksheet.
2. Scroll down to row 95.
3. Click on the number 95 to select the whole row.
4. Press Tab once to move to column B.
5. Select Help/About.
6. Hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift and click on the Tech Support button.
7. A window labeled Hall of Tortured Souls appears. It is a 3-D
texture-mapped environment reminiscent of Doom/DukeNukeEm/etc.
8. Directly ahead of you are stairs with a scrolling cast list. Go up
and take a look around. Use the cursor keys to move, and 'd' or
'c' to look up or down.
9. But there's more! Go back down the stairs and type "excelkfa"
(without the quotes).
10. The wall disappears [it's the rear wall], and there's a winding
path to navigate to see pictures.
Tread carefully!
