A FULL Zone 2 update appeared in the Nodelist here in Zone 1 on
Friday. It was even current with the 276 marker. That's one in a row.
If we can just get a diff here with ALL SIX Zones appearing as if
FidoNet were a functioning, international, well-managed network, we'd
have something to brag about again. Zones 4 and 5 were not represented
in the 276 diff, here, at all.
I understand Zone 4 is getting a new ZC. No news of this has reached
this publication from any official source. YooHoo? This is the place
to make such announcements in case you haven't read your FidoNet
Policy for awhile.
Did RC15 die? I've received no response to questions posed here and in
Netmail. YooHoo?
For those who inquired, the glass of last week's golf ball disaster
while I was editing 1439 has been replaced. It's amazing how far plate
glass can go and how small the pieces can be when hit from outside by
a golf ball. Even after sweeping twice and vacuuming, I'm still
finding little shards here and there a week later. At least it was in
the kitchen which is tiled and filled with washable surfaces. What an
additional pain it would have been on carpet and furniture! [grin]
As for content, remember this is YOUR newsletter. Keep those articles
and letters coming! ARTSPEC.DOC is available for file-request and on
the various Internet links as indicated in the Masthead.

Hello Christopher,
I thought you and anyone else taking this echo might
be interested in another echo recently backboned in the UK, FREE2000
is an echo for those wishing to discus Fidonet and its progress, into
the next millennium, and participating posters in that echo have
joined together to design and operate a WWW site [not yet up and
running]. FREE2000 is open to nodes, points and BBS users equally and
everyone is welcome.
In order to promote Fidonet on the WWW, providing access to programs
and faqs etc to enable new Fidonetters or those more used to the
Internet & WWW to access Fidonet as users or points..
It's hoped that establishing a presence on the WWW may encourage
Webbers and Internetters to join Fidonet, since all are part of the
global communications arena.
I'm therefore quite chuffed to see FidoNews is going to be visible on
the WWW as well.:-) I don't use either the WWW or Internet myself
[apart from e-mail], so can't visit your site, but I will let others
know of its existence:-)
Cheers,
Cliff/2

Telephone Info

by Leonard Erickson, 1:105/56, shadow@krypton.rain.com

First off, I need to correct my last column. I've been informed that
the Kyrgyz Republic is now *using* the 996 country code (at least you
have to dial them that way from Canada). Also, Tajikistan has been
assigned country code 992, but there's no indication of when they'll
start using it. That leaves Kazakhstan as the only country sharing
country code 7 that *hasn't* been assigned it's own country code
(Russia, of course, gets to keep country code 7).
Anyway, with no further ado, here's the latest Zone 1 area code list.
