Markings: Left side of barrel marked POLICE / POSITIVE, with only
one letter P (a large one) with OLICE and OSITIVE stacked next to
it. Target Models read same but have COLT prefix (on early ones)
and the word target as suffix. Second quality models have the
word PEQUANO on left side of barrel.
Barrel Lengths:2, 2.5, 4, 5, 6
Variations: Police Positive Target: early ones do not have
countersunk chambers in .22. Later models had countersunk
chambers in .22 starting around 1932. Checkered trigger,
elevation adjustable front sight, windage adjustable rear sight.
Police Positive Special: identical to regular Police Positive,
but has lengthened frame to accept longer cylinder needed for .38
Special ammo.
Notes: Probably the most confusing of the ColtÕs, the Police
Positive family was, as itÕs name implies, conceived and marketed
as a police weapon. In this regard it succeeded admirably and
many can be found bearing departmental markings. Target Models G
and C had their own serial number series, running parallel to the
one for the other Police Positive models. Pequano models are rare
finds.
